Stop Quantifying Your Life!

"There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness." Carl Jung

Life is full of ups and downs. None can claim a life without problems. Happiness and sorrow are the two parts of the same coin. Where there is day, there is night. Where there is life, there is death. Had there been the day only, we would not have seen the beauty of the moon and twinkling stars.

In order to better understand the secret of life, read the following story.

An eight-year-old boy approached an old man in front of a wishing well, looked up into his eyes, and asked:

"I understand you're a very wise man. I'd like to know the secret of life." The old man looked down at the youngster and replied: "I've thought a lot in my lifetime, and the secret can be summed up in four words. The first is 'think'. Think about the values you wish to live your life by. The second is 'believe'. Believe in yourself based on the thinking you've done about the values you're going to live your life by. The third is 'dream'. Dream about the things that can be, based on your belief in yourself and the values you're going to live by. The last is 'dare'. Dare to make your dreams become reality, based on your belief in yourself and your values." And with that, Walter E. Disney said to the little boy, "Think, Believe, Dream, and Dare".

Life is not eternal

True, all living beings are born to die. We all know that life is short. No one is going to be eternal. The daily consideration of death produces many and crucial advantages. For one, it completes our vision of things. It makes us sharper in distinguishing between what is essential and non-essential in life, and helps build a sense of purpose in our life.

The major advantage from making a daily consideration of death is that it can truly change the quality of our life -- for the better.

If death is inevitable and gives a chance to improve our life, then:

* Why stooping low to mess up our life? * Why being jealousy? * Why racing against the time? * Why running after money? * Why not living peacefully? * Why not improving our life?

In an attempt to comfort our personal lives, we get up with the lark only to back home with the dark. And, life passes on! Ask yourself if you are living a quality life! Many of us end up saying that we are working day & night to comfort our lives. But this is not a justifiable answer. Many of us are mistaken to substitute the quality of life with the comfortability of life. A person with less money can live a quality of life with or without comfort but a person with ample money can live a comfort life but not a quality life. True, money is necessary evil. It ensures all comforts but not a quality life.

Living a quality life for a few days is better than living a life of hundred years. Once you start valuing your quality of life, you live more than a life. And, this is the only single way to improve your life.

So what is a quality of life?

A quality of life has following characteristics:

* Love yourself * Accept what you are * Be contented with what you have * Be happy and healthy * Help others who are needy * Develop a positive attitude * Accept the harsh reality of ups and downs * Overcome your fear and anxiety * Have Faith in yourself, faith in your value, faith in your right to free will, faith that someone greater than this world loves you and has a special plan for you. * Try to put yourself in someone else's shoes and see the view from their perspective. * Give time to yourself * Accept your merits and demerits * Be committed to your family * Confess mistakes if ever committed! * Live a simple life * Enlighten your life with the fire of education * Value yourself, value your life

Never think, I'm talking of utopian life. We can develop these traits to improve our lives and thereby live a quality life. So, stop quantifying your life!
