BOOK
Burning Chrome
William Gibson
$3.99

About this product:
Ten brilliant, streetwise, high-resolution stories from the man who coined the word cyberspace. Gibson's vision has become a touchstone in the emerging order of the 21st Century, from the computer-enhanced hustlers of Johnny Mnemonic to the technofetishist blues of Burning Chrome. With their vividly human characters and their remorseless, hot-wired futures, these stories are simultaneously science fiction at its sharpest and instantly recognizable Polaroids of the postmodern condition.

BOOK
Automobiles of the Chrome Age: 1946-1960
Michael Furman
$23.94

About this product:
Michael Furman is perhaps the most in-demand photographer of automobiles today, and after one peek inside this large, fetishized monument to the great flowering of the auto industry after WW II, it's easy to see why. Huge fins, bright gleaming chrome, and colorfully glowing paint speak of incredible optimism and consumption of natural resources. A swell companion piece to his Motorcars of the Classic Era, Furman is capable of focusing on details that really make a particular car stand out while never losing sight of the importance of the overall design. There are things you totally expect to see here, like the fin from a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Seville or the deco/ Futurist "angel in flight" hood ornament for the 1947 Nash Ambassador Suburban as well as full side views of the 1951 Buick LeSabre and 1959 Firebird III (which still look like they came from the future for rides to the moon in total comfort). But even the biggest car aficionado will see these immaculately-restored museum quality rides in a different light through the clearly obsessed lens of Furman, whether it be the fin and light detail of the 1956 De Soto Adventurer or the oil cap on a 1959 Fiat Abarth Record Monza Bialbero Zagato! It's hard to think of a better gift for a fan of cars from this era, aside from one of the cars. --Mike McGonigal

BOOK
Art Deco Chrome (Schiffer Book for Collectors)
Jim Linz
$17.95

About this product:
This dazzling text takes the reader on a journey through time, rolling back the years, revealing the elegant, streamlined, moderne art deco chrome wares received as gifts in decades past. Contained between these covers are no fewer than 600 photographs and illustrations displaying more than 700 examples of fine art deco wares with sparkling metal finishes, including table decorations, drinking service pieces, buffet service items, smoking articles, and lamps. These items were the products of large, well known firms such as Chase, Manning-Bowman, Kensington, and Revere. Histories of the firms and the industrial designers who created these objects, along with patent and design information on many of the illustrated wares, are provided as well. Also included in this thorough text are all of the details necessary to identify art deco design, differentiate between-and care for-a variety of metal finishes, and to determine value. Values are included in the captions for the items shown. A bibliography and an appendix listing the Chase giftware items designed by Harry Laylon round out the presentation.

BOOK
Spectro-Chrome Metry Encyclopedia
Dinshah P. Ghadiali
$94.39

About this product:
Excellent reference book, but be sure to first read "Let There Be Light" and "Color Me Healthy", which have more information about what color light should be used for specific ailments.

Summary from Dinshah site:
117 chapters thoroughly cover the development and theory of Spectro-Chrome. Written in 1933, the first two editions spanned 1200 pages in three volumes. Their wide margins and numerous pages pertaining to courses taught by Dinshah have been deleted; but the text has not been edited. While some scientific views conflict with some of Dinshah's, it remains for history and the reader to judge. Let There Be Light (item A above) is recommended for those new to Spectro-Chrome; though based on Dinshah's teachings, it has much greater emphasis on the practical application of Spectro-Chrome. 4th edition, 240 pages; 169 charts, tables, illustrations; hardbound.
