Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey
$14.02

About this product:
Young children, and monkeys, thrive when they enjoy a close relationship with their families and caregivers, but their innate sense of curiosity is bound to get these young members of society into trouble from time to time. In Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey, the Man with the Yellow Hat (Ted) is up for a promotion to museum director at the Bloomsberry museum--all he has to do is convince the board of directors that he's the best man for the job. As Ted focuses in on his priorities for the museum's future, some gentle prodding from his monkey George and woman friend Maggie remind him that those you care about need to be high on one's priority list as well. A trip to Piccadilly's circus seems like just what George, Maggie, and Ted need, but when Ted "volunteers" for a magic trick that goes terribly wrong, George and the circus's elephant Kayla wind up missing. What ensues is a perilous and adventure-filled cross-country train chase that ends with an insightful lesson about the importance of family, perseverance, and doing what's right. The great thing about this film is that the animators have preserved the simple, colorful style of the original book illustrations for Margret and H. A. Rey's Curious George, while adding in some distinctly modern touches. Also, the voice talent, music, and script are very effective at re-creating the tone of the books. There are, however, two starkly strange elements in this film: the private investigator character Danno Wolfe and the television reporter Hark Hanson. Perhaps the introduction of these characters was just another attempt to modernize the story, but the cynical detective and sensationalist television personality seem completely out of place in the innocent world of Curious George. Nonetheless, toddlers, young children, and even their parents can't help but delight in the simple antics of this very curious monkey named George and his caregiver the Man with the Yellow Hat. --Tami Horiuchi

He's Just Not That Into You
$28.98

About this product:
Based on the bestseller by two Sex and the City scribes, He's Just Not That Into You confirms that the HBO series was more than just a television show--it was a cultural institution that spawned tours, catchphrases, fashion trends, and more. Ironically, the resulting film is both smarter and funnier than the big-screen version of Carrie and the gang. Of the nine central characters, the sweet, if clueless Gigi (Big Love's Ginnifer Goodwin) makes the most vivid impression. The Maryland career girl tends to fall for friendly guys, like Conor (Entourage's Kevin Connolly), who are "just not that into" her. At a local watering hole, she meets bar manager Alex (Justin Long, Goodwin's Ed co-star), who sets her straight about the difference between what men say and what they mean, adding that there are exceptions to every rule. Her seemingly settled co-workers, Beth (Jennifer Aniston) and Janine (Jennifer Connelly), have relationship issues of their own: Beth's boyfriend of seven years, Neil (Ben Affleck), doesn't believe in marriage, and Janine's husband, Ben (Bradley Cooper), has a wandering eye... for singer/yoga instructor Anna (Scarlett Johansson). Alt-weekly ad saleswoman Mary (executive producer Drew Barrymore) provides the link between this loose-knit community. An avid Internet dater and full-time technophile, she bemoans the fact that "people don't meet each other organically anymore." At 132 minutes, Ken Kwapis's movie could use a few trims, but he brings these complicated romantic entanglements to a convincing conclusion and the confessions from random passers-by add to the laughs. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

DVD
Hostel - Part II (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
$32.99

About this product:
With repulsion levels at least comparable to Cannibal Holocaust, Herschell Gordon Lewis' Blood Feast, and other gory slasher landmarks, Eli Roth's Hostel 2 reconfigures ideas of violence to test how down and dirty a horror film can get. The film raises the stakes, leaving those who wish to make a sicker film out in the lurch for the time being. This sequel, like the first Hostel, is set in and around a Slovakian factory where European students are kidnapped, tortured, and killed by rich businessmen who pay enormous sums to experience death firsthand. An international elite, all tattooed with a bulldog insignia, bid on young people to slaughter in a mob-organized, high-end, sex-slave trade catering to those with a death fetish. In Hostel 2, three girls from Rome, Beth (Laura German), Whitney (Bijou Phillips), and Lorna (Heather Matarazzo), are lured to Slovakia by a sultry, vampiric hottie (Vera Jordonova) who modeled for them in figure drawing class. Sidetracked and disoriented by some Pagan Slovakian festivals and luxurious hot springs, the girls slip away one by one, until the film moves inside the torture chambers. One client sits in a bathtub beneath her victim, who she slices with a scythe to bathe in blood, Elizabeth Bathory-style. Body parts fly as clients entering the facilities select their weapons of choice in a room full of knives, power tools, and rubber clothing. As ridiculous as it sounds, haunting soundtrack and cinematography set a disturbing mood. Morbid humor, for example when a chainsaw unplugs centimeters from a victim's face, pays homage to Hostel 2's schlocky predecessors. Fortunately, one survivor remains, providing an ounce of vengeful, and sexy, satisfaction. As in the best exploitation films, gratuitous sex and violence are the norm here. What will be a warning to some to avoid this gruesome movie will be to others a cue to head straight to the theater. --Trinie Dalton

My One and Only
$16.49

About this product:
Oscar-Winner Renée Zellweger shines as a Southern belle turned New York socialite who leaves her philandering husband and heads out on the road with her two teenage sons to find a new man. Based on the true-life childhood experiences of actor George Hamilton, this hilarious, heart-warming film features an all-star cast including Kevin Bacon (Mystic River), Chris Noth (TV's Sex And The City), Eric McCormack (TV's Will & Grace), and Steve Weber (TV's Wings).

When Anne Deveraux (Zellweger) finds her bandleader husband Dan (Bacon) in bed with another woman, she packs her bags, empties the cash drawer, buys a baby blue Cadillac convertible and begins a cross-country trek with her sons. From Boston to Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Albuquerque and finally Hollywood, her search for a new life continues to turn up short. But the richness of coming to really know her sons - Robbie, who dreams of a life on stage, and George, a cynical, would-be writer who hopes this journey will lead back home (and soon!) - makes their harrowing adventure on America's highways among the most worthwhile undertakings of their lives.

The New Adventures of Old Christine: The Complete Second Season
$17.59

About this product:
Just as funny as the first season of the sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine, this second season features 22 hilarious episodes of social and sexual tension as only Julia Louis-Dreyfus can deliver them. Old Christine's relationship with her ex-husband Richard (Clark Gregg) and his new girlfriend New Christine (Emily Rutherfurd) may be leveling out, but there's lots to add: The continued scorn of the meanie moms at her son Ritchie's school, the lure of the new and very hot teacher Daniel Harris (Blair Underwood), brother Matthew's new aspirations to make something of himself, her friend Barb's marital problems and burgeoning interest in Christine's business, and several questionably compatible dates, including New Christine's father Jeff (Scott Bakula), making the scene ripe for love, misunderstanding, and a host of inappropriate remarks and actions. The sense of sincerity and genuine awkwardness in Dreyfus' Emmy-winning portrayal of Old Christine makes this series incredibly funny, and good writing ensures that viewers can relate to Christine's every predicament; whether she's propositioning Ritchie's new teacher, seeking casual sex with Stan the Sad Dad, or dealing with her own inability to get a good night's sleep. Bonus features include unaired scenes on each of the four discs and a blooper gag reel. --Tami Horiuchi

The Score
$4.86

About this product:
Robert De Niro plays a weary thief tempted by wily old associate Marlon Brando into, yes, one last job, a plan to rob a priceless scepter from Montreal's Customs House. Director Frank Oz's heist thriller partners De Niro with hotshot upstart Edward Norton, and you'd have to be determinedly grumpy not to get half a kick out of Brando, DeNiro, and Norton--more than holding his own--coolly bouncing off one another in a Method paradise. Brando may be enormous and breathing heavily with every move, but his technique is as agile as it ever was; he still seems spontaneously clever. Oz doesn't have the most crackling visual style in the world, as the film is far too smooth for tension, and keeps tapping Howard Shore's music score to do most of the work in that department; the divine Angela Bassett is once again totally wasted in a 10-minute throwaway role as De Niro's girlfriend. The Score isn't anything new, and there isn't a single surprise, but if you're into this sort of thing you do respond to its polished familiarity. --Steve Wiecking
