DVD
Krakatoa, East of Java
$3.99

About this product:
Let's leave aside the small problem of Krakatoa actually being west of Java. This 1969 epic adventure about treasure hunters who encounter the volcanic island just as it blows apart and who then get bounced around in the ensuing tidal wave is technically impressive if narratively lame. An interesting cast of familiar actors portray the mixed group of adventurers, but the script and dialogue are so weak one just wants to get past all their drama on the high seas (the group is seeking sunken fortunes on the ocean floor) and watch the geological fireworks. Fortunately, they make for quite a show. --Tom Keogh

DVD
THE BATTLE OF THE JAVA SEA
$19.95

About this product:
The first major sea battle of WWII in the Pacific. The US Asiatic Fleet joined with three allied fleets to face up to the powerful Imperial Japanese Navy. It was no contest. The allied fleet was wiped out. This film by Dutch Film director, Niek Koppen is a superb documentary of this sacrificial battle. It is the winner of a Golden Calf Award and many other awards. The film "The Last Stand of the USS Houston (Death Becomes The Ghost)" is an important companion to this film. The INJ effectively removed the expected support of the US Navy from PearlHarbor. The Asiatic Fleet and its Dutch, British and Australian Allies were left alone, outgunned, with older ships and no air support. Distribution of this film in the United States is by Buzz Creek (Grade-A Media). "The Last Stand of USS Houston" is a companion title that adds more information to the epic story.
