Oxford Blues
$24.49

About this product:
With a bribe to a computer hacker to juggle the admissions list and a lucky night in Las Vegas to bankroll his tuition, brash American Nick De Angelo is off to England's prestigious Oxford University. He's not going for an education. He's going for romance. He'll get both in ways he doesn't expect.

Oxford Blues, as reviewers note, updates the classic era's A Yank at Oxford. Rob Lowe plays Nick, whose cockiness clashes with upper-crust tradition while he pursues co-ed Lady Victoria (Amanda Pays), a woman he knows only from her press clippings. But there's another pursuit driving Nick. He's a talented crew oarsman - a skill that may allow Oxford's elite to see that there's real fire behind Nick's flash.

London - A Musical Tour of London and Oxford
$5.77

About this product:
As one who has been to London 21 times since 1994, most recently in March 2005, who also has taken hundreds of still photographs during my visits, this DVD is marvelous. Though I have been to nearly every location shown, most multiple times, the cinematography brillantly captures angles and juxtapositions that often show natural and architectural features in a new light. The images are crisp and the colors are vivid. In fact, I plan to revisit some attractions in November to photograph them after seeing this video. The music is excellent and I was glad to see that DTS is a choice as I prefer it to Dolby Digital. My favorite combination of images and music is a tour of Christ Church, Oxford, accompanied by Elgar's Enigma Variation IX, "Nimrod." I am sorry that a visit to Maritime Greenwich was not included; perhaps it is in another of this "Musical Journey" series. Availability is a problem in local stores. Even those such as Tower Records, Best Buy, Sam Goody, and Borders have a good selection of Naxos CDs, but I did not find one of the Naxos "Musical Journey" DVDs. I found this at Cutler's in New Haven.

Oxford Blues [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - Spain ]
$25.97

About this product:
Spain released, PAL/Region 2 DVD:it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ),Spanish ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ),SPECIAL FEATURES: Filmographies, Interactive Menu, Scene Access,SYNOPSIS: This is an uneven modern remake of A Yank at Oxford (1938) from writer-director Robert Boris, the man behind such diverse earlier productions as Some Kind of Hero (1981) and Doctor Detroit (1983). Rob Lowe stars as Nick Di Angelo, an American hustler and parking attendant in Las Vegas who falls in love at first sight with a beautiful, classy British woman, Lady Victoria (Amanda Pays). He follows her back to England and learns that she is a student at the prestigious Oxford University. Intent on wooing the object of his affection despite their obviously different locations in the social strata, Nick manages to finagle his way into an admission at the school by paying a computer hacker for some illegal tampering. With his arrogant manner and self-centered worldview, Nick quickly offends nearly everyone he encounters, except fellow American expatriate Rona (Ally Sheedy), who becomes his only friend. Nick also secures a spot on the rowing team, an experience that builds his character. A typical example of the mid-'80s "Rat Pack" film, Oxford Blues featured a soundtrack with several forgettable rock songs written expressly for the movie, interjected at intervals into the narrative through music video-style sequences.

DVD
A Chump at Oxford [Region 2]
$21.99

About this product:
This wild Laurel and Hardy film casts the pair as street cleaners who stop a bank robbery. As their reward, they are both given full-ride scholarships to Oxford (which seems a bit odd, since it was the middle of the Depression). When they arrive at the British institution of higher learning, however, they become the objects of extensive pranks by the other students, who are upperclassmen in more ways than one and look down their noses at the working-class buffoons. Except for one thing: Stan, as it turns out, was one of Oxford's most distinguished and accomplished scholars before a blow on the head turned him into the easygoing dimwit we know and love. Another knock on the noggin turns him back into the veddy British lord, who promptly sets the other students straight. Some very funny business with the boys and a stuffy dean, whose quarters they invade. --Marshall Fine
