Deficits, debt financing, monetary policy and inflation in developing countries: Internal or external factors? [An article from: Journal of Asian Economics]
A. Kia
$10.95

About this product:
This digital document is a journal article from Journal of Asian Economics, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
This paper focuses on internal and external factors which influence the inflation rate in developing countries. A monetary model of inflation rate, capable of incorporating both monetary and fiscal policies as well as other internal and external factors, was developed and tested on Iranian data. It was found that, over the long run, a higher exchange rate leads to a higher price and that the fiscal policy is very effective to fight inflation. The major factors affecting inflation in Iran, over the long run, are internal rather than external. However, over the short run, the sources of inflation are both external and internal.

A note on modelling core inflation for the UK using a new dynamic factor estimation method and a large disaggregated price index dataset [An article from: Economics Letters]
G. Kapetanios
$4.95

About this product:
This digital document is a journal article from Economics Letters, published by Elsevier in 2004. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

Description:
The term 'core inflation' is widely used by academics and central bankers, though there is no widely accepted definition or agreed method of measuring it. In this paper, we propose a new measure of core inflation which is atheoretical but assumes factor structure for the disaggregated price indices which underlie most constructed measures of inflation. We show that the measure of core inflation obtained has added predictive ability for inflation in the UK over a relatively long evaluation period.

BOOK
Dynamics of Inflation - Relations Between Inflation, Public-sector Financial Fragility, Expectations, and Profit Margins
Antonio Kandir

About this product:
One of the challenges facing anyone who sets out to analyze and propose stabilization policies is the fact that inflationary processes, like all economic processes, are not ahistorical. As I shall try to show, inflation cannot be explained simply by affirming the existence of social actors who play differing roles in the economic process and who dispute a bigger share of the wealth to be distributed. Inflation is a more complex process than that, and can be understood only if a more structured, specific theory is developed. The book was written with two main aims in mind. The first was to develop a theoretical proposition for the study of the acceleration of inflation in the context determined by the adjustment processes which chronically inflationary economies with significantly complex productive structures encounter. The second aim was to demonstrate that because of adjustment these economies tend to move toward a situation where inflation begins to present an endogenous acceleration component which may raise serious problems for all kinds of stabilization polity.
