BOOK
Framework for Lower Back: A 6-Step Plan for Treating Lower Back Pain
Bruce Scali
$12.81

About this product:

Manage and prevent lower back pain with the proven FrameWork philosophy!

Muscle and joint conditions have surpassed the common cold as the #1 reason for physician visits in the United States with lower back pain leading the charge.  If you suffer from lower back pain, you know the frustration of having to miss out on activities you enjoy and having trouble finding an exercise program that does not exacerbate your pain or symptoms.

In his book, FrameWork, renowned sports medicine physician Dr. Nicholas DiNubile provided readers with cutting-edge strategies for safely starting, maintaining, and building an exercise program designed to promote optimum muscle, bone, and joint function and health. Now in the first installment of his Active for Life series, Framework for the Lower Back, DiNubile provides lower back pain sufferers with a specific plan for treating and preventing sprains, strains, disc problems, arthritis, sciatica issues, and other injuries. Beginning with an explanation of the causes, preventative strategies, and treatment of common lower back problems, Framework for the Lower Back includes:
· A comprehensive pre-exercise screening questionnaire to assess the extent of injury or pain
· A tailor-made exercise plan that incorporates innovative exercises that can be done at home or in the gym
· Nutritional advice designed to strengthen the muscles, joints, and bones of the lower back

Lower back pain and injury doesn’t mean the end of an active lifestyle. All it takes is a balanced, customizable plan that acknowledges the fact that our bodies are all a little different and often need special attention. Framework for the Lower Back provides that plan and gives you all the tools you need to stay active for life.
BOOK
8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back: Natural Posture Solutions for Pain in the Back, Neck, Shoulder, Hip, Knee, and Foot (Remember When It Didn't Hurt)
Esther Gokhale
$14.08

About this product:
I wish I had this book years ago. I compressed two vertebrae in my spine when I was in my twenties. I wore a Jewitt brace for a year. Now I am seventy one, and what was once mild discomfort has become very distracting pain.

I was immediately struck with the author's notion that good posture is simply natural posture, and that poor posture seems to be more of a product of growing up in a modern industrialized country. Pictures of naked babies, naked toddlers, near naked teens, and adults in third world countries drive this point home. Even photographs of ancient statues attest to this view. Perhaps this is because adults in modern nations do not have to depend on the strength of their backs to survive. Anyway, the authors ask, "Remember When it Didn't Hurt?"

I just got the book and have only skimmed through it - trying out each of the exercises. Since I suffered a serious back injury, it wouldn't be fair for me to gritch about not being able to find any great pain reduction by using these exercises. I can say that the whole book is well written and well illustrated. It is beautiful. And the Amazon.com price is absurdly low. The exercises do not cause me any noteworthy discomfort. And I am impressed with Helen Barkan's, MD., PhD., Neurology, of MAYO CLINIC endorsement: "The greatest contribution ever made to non-surgical back pain treatment."

I plan to work this book very seriously. I don't want a risky surgical solution.

BOOK
Good-Bye to Bad Backs: Simple Stretching and Strengthening Excerises for Alignment and Freedom from Lower Back Pain
Judith Scott
$16.95

About this product:
I suffered from lower back pain for years, and nothing seemed to help. I got this book as a gift, and didn't read it right away, thinking "I don't have time". It wasn't until I became pregnant and realized that I would not be able to deal with the added stress on my back if I did not do something. I began the exercises, and almost immediately noticed an improvement in my back pain. I went through my whole pregnancy doing the stretches (the book gives modified stretches for really pregnant women), and rarely had any issues with my back, unless I skipped the stretches for a couple of days, and then I could notice the difference. The book gives several routines of varying difficulty, plus modified stretches for pregnant women. The routines generally took me about 20 minutes to do, so it is not a huge time commitment. I got into the habit of doing them daily, but the book also says you can do them every other day. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to control their back pain without drugs.

A Massage Therapist's Guide to Lower Back & Pelvic Pain
Sandy Fritz
$34.47

About this product:
A MASSAGE THERAPIST'S GUIDE TO LOWER BACK AND PELVIC PAIN describes in detail the background to the evolution of "non-specific" backache as well as the assessment and treatment methods ideal for use in combination with massage therapy, deriving from physical therapy, osteopathic, and chiropractic sources. The book describes these methods individually and then integrates them into a detailed description of a massage session focusing on the person with backache. This unique book takes care to consider the needs of the massage therapist, who previously may have had to adapt his/her own methodology from descriptions aimed at other health care professionals.

  • Abundant illustrations enrich the text and bring content to life to make it easily understandable.
  • Bulleted point text and summaries allow the reader to quickly find information and review important content.
  • Easy-reference format and accessible language help break down concepts.
  • Included DVD demonstrates real-life examples of the palpation and treatment methods.
