About this product: In another wondrous, wordless picture book by Caldecott Medal winner David Wiesner (Tuesday and June 29, 1999), a class visiting the Empire State Building finds complete cloud cover and no visibility. One boy makes friends with a cloud (identifiable in the mists by the red mittens, hat, and scarf and swipes from the boy), and goes AWOL on a wonderful adventure. The cloud whisks him away to the "Sector 7" floating cloud factory, a bizarre sky station that looks like a Victorian design for a submarine.
Hiding behind his new cumulonimbus friend, the boy enters an area resembling Grand Central Station (complete with "Arrivals" and "Departures" boards) and watches officious human types in uniform giving the clouds their weather assignments. When the clouds complain to the boy that their assigned shapes are boring, he, a talented artist, creates new blueprints for them. The stuffy grownups are furious when clouds start emerging in the shape of fantastic fish; they shout at the clouds, tear up the new designs, and escort the boy back to his school group. But the revolt of the clouds is unstoppable now, and in the last few pages the skies over Manhattan suddenly get a lot more interesting. (Click to see a sample spread. About this product: FISCAL ADMINISTRATION is based on two principles: that students must clearly understand the details of where the money for public budgets comes from; and that, to learn public finance and budgeting, students must "run the numbers." John Mikesell--an authority on the revenue side of public finance--focuses on his area of specialty, giving students detailed instruction that will equip them to deal with the complex issues and calculations they will encounter in the field. In most chapters, Mikesell includes questions and exercises that require calculations to get specific answers, as well as "Cases for Discussion" and "Sidebars" that supplement the regular text with more in-depth treatment of key topics. This edition also includes the most recent federal budget information, as well as the latest federal government fiscal data.
About this product: Like the arteries of a living organism, nonprofit organizations carry a life force that has long been a centrepiece of American culture - a faith in the capacity of individual action to improve the quality of human life. They embody two seemingly contradictory impulses at the heart of American character: a deep-seated commitment to freedom and individual initiative and an equally fundamental realization that people live in communities and consequently have responsibilities that extend beyond themselves. Uniquely among American institutions, those in the nonprofit sector blend these competing impulses, creating a special class of entities that Alexis de Tocqueville recognized to be "more deserving of our attention" than any other part of the American experiment. Until the end of the 20th century, little headway had been made in tracking developments in the nonprofit sector systematically, in assessing the impact they are having, and in getting the results into the hands of the nonprofit practitioners, policymakers, the press and the public at large. This work offers an accessible overview of the sector to non-scholarly readers. It paints a broad picture of the state of America's nonprofit sector while identifying the changes that might be needed to promote its long-term health. The result is a concise testament to the scope, significance and determination of America's nonprofits.

The actions of politicians, regulators, and economic policy makers have an enormous impact on the financial markets. In Sectors and Styles, author Vincent Catalano offers an investment technique that takes these factors into account. He illustrates how you should index a portion of your stock portfolio to the market, while investing another portion in industry sectors that are likely to outperform the broader market. To determine "hot" sectors, Catalano provides a framework for analyzing government activity, the economy, and market activity. Through proper interpretation of these events, you'll learn how to outperform the markets, while mitigating downside risk.
"The emerging field of social entrepreneurship has been crying out for a definitive textbook. With clarity, insight, and a strong practical orientation, the authors of Entrepreneurship in the Social Sector have set the gold standard for many years to come." -Professor J. Gregory Dees, Duke University, Co-author of Enterprising Nonprofits and Strategic Tools for Social Entrepreneurs
"The past thirty years have witnessed a remarkable revolution in which entrepreneurs – people like Bob Swanson at Genentech, Steve Jobs at Apple, and Meg Whitman at eBay - have transformed the business landscape around the world. A parallel revolution of at least equal importance has taken place in the social sector in which tens of thousands of organizations have been created with social missions ranging from curing disease to improving education to alleviating global warming. But, how do these social ventures get going? How do they attract capital to launch and grow? How do they measure their performance? In short, how do they accomplish their mission? In Entrepreneurship in the Social Sector, Jane Wei-Skillern, James Austin, Herman Leonard, and Howard Stevenson provide insights into these issues by combining powerful frameworks for decision-making with detailed case studies on important social ventures. The book is helpful to those launching or managing such organizations and to those who support their efforts through donations and board membership. Society needs these ventures to succeed – all involved would benefit from reading this book."
-William A. Sahlman, Harvard Business School

Entrepreneurship in the Social Sector offers a grounded and insightful conceptualization of the key challenges and fundamental processes of social entrepreneurship. It also presents practical frameworks for analyzing both, across a wide range of organizations. This book should be on the shelf of every aspiring and successful social entrepreneur."
