From the supplier: The Knight Ridder-Commodity Research Bureau (CRB) spot market index is an indicator of commodity prices that is commonly followed. Its effectiveness as an indicator of inflation is tested using Granger causality tests of its ability to predict the consumer price index (CPI). The data used are monthly figures for the period Jan. 1967 to Jul. 1994, a period which includes the Vietnam War and the 1970s oil price shocks. The results indicate that the CRB is a good predictor of the CPI, although their precise influence on each other is still unresolved.
