Useless for actually determining if the port is open or not. I know of several open ports on the IP I tested, and it only showed "closed or filtered"....thats great to know...

what a pile of shit
by: ip-man on 2009-03-16 10:05:49
bad precision!
by: Dath on 2008-12-10 20:33:37
good idea, but highly inaccurate. Did a tracert to a site which I know 100% has 7 specific ports open, tested this computer, some routers/servers listed from the tracert and the site itself and states they were closed.

GREAT online tool. Exactly what I was looking for. Allows me to troubleshoot port issues on remote pc's outside of the network. Keep this site up!!

i hear you. it's for spot checking, not a comprehensive utility. if you're looking for a powerful tool nmap is the way to go.
by: ahj on 2008-08-26 09:04:09
it is damn worst tool i have ever seen. it is worthless to see only 10 ports result at a time. really disappointing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outstanding! this service is what I was waiting for! I am behind a restrictive firewall and can't do testing on my home net... thank you very much!

As a suggestion, can you put some kind of 'tracert/traceroot' in your tools? it could be useful for tracing network problems or ISP page blocks.

generally a closed port indicates that the host is there but no apparent service is running on that port. connections are immediately closed.
a stealth or filtered port could mean a non-existent host. connections go unanswered and eventually time out.
firewalls could simulate either condition to protect internal hosts, but many out there are configured using the stealth format.

Good tool but I have a question: I got a message for my port 443 that is open but SOME PORTS MIGHT BE FILTERED. What das this mean? Who filters ports? Internet service provider or maybe my router or... who?

Thanks,

Dragan

its pointless for hackers cause you can only do 10 at a times when theres thousands so dont worry about them

This is THE best around for testing your network rules 'remotely'.

Thanks,

Nick

Very useful service!
by: Anonymous on 2007-09-07 11:36:27
Could you not make the service do a full port scan?

Great tool though!

Hi!,

Awesome tool!, I was looking something like this to audit my site!. Is there any way to update the page and add box to send the results to my e-mail address?

by: Dark-Angel on 2007-01-05 04:36:56

At last a tool that actually allows me to specify a different IP address as opposed to our primary routed IP. Makes any admin who manages multiple external ip's job a lot easier. Thanks for the great work.
by: anonymous on 2006-12-24 09:40:51
problem is the limit of only 10 ports being scanned ... full spectrum scan would be nice !!!

thx a lot for this service

by: Ron Kuper on 2005-10-31 02:05:25
Great tool to know where the problem is if you cannot reach a remote server - No other way to know if it is a firewall down the road from your LAN or on the server side.
by: adderek on 2005-08-16 10:35:37
I was looking for something like this on the internet but found only l4m3 apps (I have to scan my own PC from the internet). Lucky I have found this page. Great thing.
