Food on Google

    πŸ“‚ Google,Health     # ,     πŸ—¨ No Comments

I'm not a health nut but I do run regularly and enjoy eating healthy food. I don't know a vegetable or fruit that I don't like, a trait inherited from my late father. Sometimes I like to look up the nutrition info on a banana or broccoli just for fun and now Google has made — Continue reading Β»

Goggles Can't Read QR Code

    πŸ“‚ Google     # ,     πŸ—¨ No Comments

Not sure if it's the latest version of Goggles app or if it's Jelly Bean, but since upgrading my Samsung Galaxy S2 to Android Jelly Bean, Goggles can't read the majority of QR codes it encounters. I had a friend try Goggles on his Jelly Bean HTC and it was the same situation. Another friend — Continue reading Β»

Google Keep

    πŸ“‚ Google     # ,     πŸ—¨ No Comments

Here comes a new service from Google called 'Keep'. It's basically aΒ utilityΒ to create notes and task lists and access them from anywhere including one's smartphone. I suppose it is a reincarnation of the old Google Notebook. Many have dubbed Keep the Evernote killer. Probably an over-reaction, but I don't use Evernote. Years ago I created — Continue reading Β»

Google Voice, Still No MMS Support

Recently someone asked me if I had received their text message. I am a Google Voice user and had not received the text message. Worse yet, the person hadn't received a bounce either so apparently the text had just vanished without a trace. Turns out that the person had actually attached a photo to the — Continue reading Β»

Oracle's Java Bet

A couple of weeks ago a judge finally ruled that Google hadn't violated any patents when it used the Java programming language in its Android OS. Good, finally someone wasn't intimidated by Larry Ellison and ruled based on logic rather than emotion. Word has it that the judge actually took some time to learn Java — Continue reading Β»

Gmail Storage Jumps to 10G

    πŸ“‚ Email,Google     #     πŸ—¨ No Comments

Today I noticed my Gmail storage had jumped form 7.5G to 10G. Maybe it's Google's way of compensating for the new ugly design. I suspect in most cases users didn't even notice the change and for even more users like me, who try to keep their account clean, this is really not much of an — Continue reading Β»

Gmail Forces New Look

    πŸ“‚ Email,Google     #     πŸ—¨ 2 Comments

The good times are over and the ugly Gmail era has dawned. Google finally made good on the threat of making the new look permanent. Over the weekend my Gmail style switched to the new ugliness and there was no longer an option available to revert to the old look as before. I can whine — Continue reading Β»

Chrome Blesses SQLite

Here's an interesting piece found on the Chrome browser (v17). Β Fire up Chrome. Browse to chrome://credits/, scroll down to SQLite and click on "show licence" and this little praise pops up: The author disclaims copyright to this source code.Β  In place ofΒ a legal notice, here is a blessing: May you do good and not evil. — Continue reading Β»
