No Soliciting Sign

    📂 Social     #     🗨 No Comments

Magazine peddlers, religious preachers, and other door surfers seem to always ring the doorbell at the worst times. Is there a good time for this anyways? To put an end to this incessant parade of annoyance, I went looking for a simple "No Soliciting" sign on the Internet to tape to my door. I couldn't — Continue reading »

Amazon fires California affiliates

    📂 Business,Law,Politics     #     🗨 No Comments

This is old news by now, but fresh on the heels of firing its Connecticut affiliates, Amazon just terminated its California affiliates program in protest over the new state law requiring it to collect sales taxes on purchases. The law may be fair or unfair, but Amazon could have easily complied, as it does reluctantly — Continue reading »

Pasting images into Gmail

    📂 Email,Google     # , ,     🗨 No Comments

A great idea that was way overdue. I always liked the simplicity of copy/pasting images into outlook. Now Gmail lets users do the same. Granted that for now it's only supported in Chrome, but that's my default browser anyways. No more the old cumbersome copying, saving, naming, inserting, selecting, and finally deleting images. Pasting images — Continue reading »

Amazon.com punishes Connecticut associates

    📂 Business,Law     # ,     🗨 No Comments

Not to defend big-box stores but this statement from Amazon is an obvious distortion of facts. Amazon is just being whiny because it hates fair competition. We opposed this new tax law because it is unconstitutional and counterproductive. It was supported by big-box retailers, most of which are based outside Connecticut, that seek to harm — Continue reading »

Amazon.com Dumps Connecticut, Too

    📂 Business,Law     # , ,     🗨 No Comments

Amazon has lashed out against my home state of Connecticut, cutting all their affiliates in the state, because Connecticut told Amazon to play fair. While local merchants are required to collect and pay state taxes, Amazon was happily undercutting them online, using its affiliates as mules to deliver some of those sales. The state recently — Continue reading »

Kudos to Google

My admiration to Google for standing up for what's right. Even in the face of Chinese retaliation, Google has gone public with the revelation that the hacking activity of Gmail accounts had a Chinese connection. The allegations are as of yet uncorroborated, but Google deserves much credit for standing up to China when there's evidence of wrong-doing. We'll see how far Google is willing to go on — Continue reading »

Radio Golha - Traditional Persian Music

    📂 Music     # ,     🗨 No Comments

When I was a young boy growing up in Iran, a favorite radio program of my maternal grandfather was Golha, a variety program on radio consisting of traditional Persian music. My grandfather would take a little rest after lunch and listened to this program in its entirety. And as I wasn't exactly a quiet kid, — Continue reading »

Handling Illegal Workers Problem

    📂 Law,Politics     # ,     🗨 No Comments

This is a perfect example (link at bottom) of how the illegal immigration problem should be handled. Charge the businesses that hire them. These businesses not only hurt the nation but also abuse the illegal workers themselves. What's there to be gained by arresting and detaining a bunch of illegals? These people don't have much — Continue reading »
